funding
Yakuza 2033 has received funding from a major web3 gaming studio.
The funding will be used to build an original and on-chain game. The specifics of the game are still undecided. The studio has no influence.
In exchange for the funding, the studio has the right but not the obligation to participate in Yakuza 2033’s first funding round, if one were to occur.
As a result of this funding, game development is being prioritized, and so the dev roadmap will be rearchitected.
For now, the studio is remaining anonymous as the Yakuza 2033 storyline contains content not suitable for the studio’s brand positioning. The studio has no expectation of the Yakuza 2033 story being changed to accommodate this.
FAQ
How will this change the story?
It won’t.
How will this change the roadmap?
Rather than deploying utility and then layering a game over it, both utility and gamification will be delivered together.
How much is the funding?
The amount is not being disclosed, however it is enough to build a v1 game.
Is it common for other gaming projects to do this?
Most games give tokens to get funding, and most of those deals happen pre-launch. This deal is post-launch, and no tokens have been given. Instead, Yakuza is committed to including this game studio in our initial funding round, if one were to take place.
Did you have other funding options, if so why did you choose this one?
Yes. We chose this one because:
The funders have domain expertise.
The funders were willing to accept an option rather than immediate ownership.
How will this affect game development?
It will prioritize game development, and provide funding for the team to do so.
How long are you feeling comfortably funded for?
1 year.
